How to Play Darts – The Basics for Beginners

Darts is one of the world’s most accessible and addictive pub games — all you need is a board, three darts, and the will to hit the bullseye. The standard game is 501, where players start with 501 points and subtract scores until reaching exactly zero (must end on a double).

Quick Rules:

  1. The Board: Bullseye = 50 (inner bull = 25). Single segments = face value (1–20). Triples = x3, Doubles = x2. Outer bull = 25.
  2. Throwing Order: Closest to bullseye throws first to determine order (closest = first). Three darts per turn.
  3. Scoring: Highest score first. Bust if you go below zero or don’t double out — turn resets to previous score.
  4. Winning: Reach exactly 0 on a double (e.g., 32 → double 16).

Oche Distance: Stand 7’9.25″ (93.25″) from the board’s face, feet behind the line.

Pro Tip: Grip loosely, aim with your dominant eye, follow through smooth. Practice 301 for fun or Cricket for teams.

Darts is skill + strategy — start simple and watch your scores climb!
